Passplus Driver Courses

 Passplus training at drivertuition.com

What is PassPlus?   It is a course designed for the recently qualified driver who wishes to take his or her driving to a higher level, more in tune with today's demanding driving conditions.

Where will I drive?  You will receive instruction on some of the most demanding roads in the North West, usually very different from the roads that you will have learned on.

Can PassPlus really improve my driving?  In short, yes.  We guarantee that you'll come away feeling that you've learned a great deal, as well as gaining the PassPlus standard and the insurance advantages that it provides.

How long does it take and is there a TEST?  We do whole day training courses, lasting a minimum of 6 hours.  There's no test, so, if you complete the course, you attain the standard and you reap the benefits. And the benefits?

The Benefit;  You receive a certificate from the Driving Standards Agency after completing the course. The course is validated by ourselves, as registered PassPlus providers. This can be used to obtain your cheaper insurance quotes.

Safety. In your first year of driving you have a one in four chance of having an accident. PassPlus has been shown to significantly reduce the likelihood of you being involved in a road traffic accident. What price can you put on this?

The most important bit Enjoyment. Virtually every one who has taken our course has found the driving  both stimulating and rewarding:  And you don't do your lessons in a "learner car". You drive the course in a non-L-plated instruction car, on roads very different to your Learner routes. So there's no reason to feel that you're back at the learner stage again. Think of it as going for the next level.

Why us?  Put simply, quality of instruction combined with a friendly manner. Your instructors are highly qualified in advanced driving, road safety and high speed techniques, and have instructed to a very high level and in all areas of car driving. We are very friendly and try to make it a great day. We are also very cost conscious and try to give the young driver a highly discounted rate - you are getting professional instruction at a minimum 30% discount over our normal courses. We support learning for younger drivers.

Comments from recent sessions:

Chris - "The passplus driving was brilliant. I thought I was pretty good but Mike showed me how wrong I was. I was ####. But, by the end of the day my driving was so much better and I learnt a load more than I did from my learner lessons. Well worth it"

Chris has now booked some advanced lessons - Aug 06

Sam - " How bad was my driving!!! Mike showed my why my steering was so rubbish. The roads we drove were fantastic. And we didn't hang about. Mike encourages you to drive the car. Now I can see how rubbish all my mates are! I'd like to do some more sessions"

Angie - Thanks for the day from me and my Dad - I think he learned more than me!

Passplus course modules - we run passplus courses all over the country

There are 6 modules to the passplus course, each one validated by the instructor and graded as achieved or exceeded, once the required standard of competence has been achieved. Each passplus module can take around one hour, depending on previous experience. The modules may be blended into each other during the day, if a day course is taken.

TIME REQUIRED: 1 day out of area,  or 2 half day sessions

Our course adds additional, more testing scenarios to the drive and takes about 1-2 hours longer than a typical passplus course - see prices

Ideally a practical session, in passplus weather you'll focus on correct speed, safe stopping distances, plus seeing and being seen in
rain, sleet, snow and ice, mist and fog, and bright sunshine.

You will also look at skidding, what causes them, how to prevent them, correcting slow-speed skids, braking on poor surfaces, and aquaplaning.

Driving out of townSave money on your car insurance by taking a passplus course

We look at the main differences between town driving and country driving in this passplus unit, an area that may barely touched on in pre-test lessons. These include observing the road ahead, making progress safely, bends, hills, uneven roads and dead ground, keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and safe overtaking

It focuses especially on being aware and showing consideration for

  • pedestrians, horse riders and animals in the road
  • farm entrances
  • slow moving vehicles

Appropriate use of the horn, coping with mud and debris on the road and how to use passing places are also covered.

Night driving Save money on your car insurance by taking a passplus course

Driving in the dark is a skill in itself - eyesight defects can make this much harder than you may realise. If in doubt get an eyesight check. Under 19 and in full time education - it's free.

This module covers the essential aspects of driving in the dark and also at dawn and dusk. You'll learn about

  • the importance of the correct use of headlights
  • adjusting to the dark
  • judging speed and distance
  • the correct use of lights and keeping them clean
  • dealing with dazzle
  • road users who can be hard to see, and
  • parking issues

Note the chart on the right. Nighttime on country roads produces the most severe accident statistics. We explain why and what you can do to make sure that you don't become one of the statistics.

Dual carriageways are high speed, multi-lane roads where the two carriageways are separated by a central reservation. They demand particular skills, including
effective observation, using your mirrors and checking blind spots, judgement and planning ahead, the need for a safe separation distance, joining and leaving a dual carriageway, overtaking and lane discipline, and the correct use of speed.

Driving on MotorwaysSave money on your car insurance by taking a passplus course

  • planning journeys in advance
  • joining and leaving a motorway, using slip roads
  • safe speeds in different circumstances
  • effective observation all around your vehicle
  • signs, signals and markings
  • overtaking and lane discipline
  • courtesy to other road users
  • motorway fatigue
  • breakdown procedures
  • use of lights, including hazard warning lights

Some things to think about from your learner lessons: m60 accident - why not take a passplus course and learn the dangers of our motorways. drivertuition.com

What were you taught during your driving lessons about motorway driving techniques, dangers of foreign lorry blindspots, road surfaces and braking, blind bend negotiation, driving on ice?  Why is a salted road more dangerous than an unsalted one once the temperature rises?  Why are there twice as many deaths on a left hand bend as a right hand?

We add real value to the passplus course to ensure that you learn as much as we can possibly achieve. You will be given a flavour of advanced driving techniques during the course and all driving will be referenced to Roadcraft, the official Police driving manual, as used traffic police in training.

PassPlus in-a-day - £195 standard course

A minimum of 6 hours tuition covering the 6 prescribed modules as above.

Funds collected securely. Payment can be made by Paypal, Visa or MasterCard.  An additional fee may be added for out-of-area courses

PassPlus in-a-day - Extended  - £225 all inclusive

This course adds to a typical passplus course by including much more testing road environments than you would normally encounter. These include some of the most difficult and testing motorway intersections in the UK and also particularly challenging country A-road sections, such as the A666 West Pennine route or the famous Cat & Fiddle Buxton-Macclesfield road: Statistically, this is one of the three most dangerous roads in the country, but on this course you can safely learn to recognise the hazards and deal with them effectively: Not to be missed for real driver improvement and confidence building.

The above covers significantly more mileage than the basic course, but it really sets the scene for greater understanding of today's roads and attendant risks. You may also be offered an opportunity to drive a BMW M3 high performance car if you demonstrate a high standard of drive. Definitely more than a "ticking the boxes" exercise.

Funds collected securely. Payment can be made by Paypal, Visa or MasterCard.  An additional fee may be added for out-of-area courses
